Mr. Ridley crossed my path in a small pizza shop in mid town, he was working on a spoken word x triphop colab with Geko Jones whom ive blogged about before. Im guessing it was back in 2004/5… he was a banker then, banker as in a person that works in a bank, not a word rhyming with banker that starts with a “W”, lol. Honestly ive met no other like him, he inspires and fills you with creativity, floods your mind with wonderful ideas and just makes you want to tear the clothing from miss. Inspiration and ride her till the dinosaur`s come back!Hiis skills vairy from spray paint via print, web, photography, motion and film to all things music, beats, sound engineering, producing and spinng the wheels of steel… A true legend of a friend, super talented who quite literally masters everything he touches. keep it up rids!!

I love this concept… Kenzodigi (Nam Jun Pak’s apprentice) spent hours Splicing together numerous music videos and movies to make one fantastic mind pleasing movie, “City of God’s Son” is an experimental hip-hop opera starring Nas, Jay Z, Ghostface, Biggie Smalls, Raekwon, Samuel Jackson, Delroy Lindo, and Laurence Fishburne. It is a crime drama/coming of age tale of three fictitious characters growing up in a crime ridden mythical city in a jungle.

Be sure to download this mash up comp… a creative concept by Max Tannone also known as Minty Fresh Beats, infusing the legendry Jay Z and the cult alternative band Radiohead… I listened to it constantly yesterday, in the apt on martha stewart living day (smirk no dis respect to Luther King) all cold and snowy out side.. I was in a bit of a slump trying to make my home, “home” again. This cd took me right to where i wanted to be, mellow and cozey a big grass-arse to the very Fresh Minty…. grab the goodies here and send your ear drums some therapeutical luurvin!
MR. JONES…. “How low can you go?”
So my long time friend Mr. Geko Jones is in need of a little exposure, as stubborn as he is i have to give it to him, hes hung in by the skin of his teeth and slowly but surely the foot tapping connoisseurs and hip shakers of Manhattan and its surrounding borough`s have bitten deep and tasted the true pleasures of this forward sounding movement that’s truly about to hit home hard! From early days of house party’s at Warren st. brooklyn he and his surrounding counter parts, 3rd Rayl, eliel lucero, abena koomson, ray madena and my self grouped and created the collaboration Funkworthy ( adapting the term of good looking Fuck_worthy) later renamed to Funkworthy FM. The regular monthly traveling carnival grew and grew… seeping into the nooks and cranny’s of New York gaining a following crowd that the pied piper would be proud of. Jones stood aside and linked him self to the label Dutty Artz, working with dj rupture, shadatek , Maga Bo and the phenomenal lyricist jahdan blakkamoore. Growing more and more stumbling across a multicultural turntable wizard Uproot Andy.. this is where hes landed today… well for now. Go check this fella out, trust me you wont be disappointed, you’ll just need a hip replacement!

A LITTLE BROWN RICE..
A few weeks back i poped out one late sunday night to meet a close friend (eliel lucero) who was bartending at the bowery poetry club. Its was a sunday night so i didnt scrub up, just nipped for a few cheekys and a natter about the old and new. Turns out its an asian infused night (sulu series) A few hours rolled by, id seen a few acts but nothing to write home about.
The following act, a Coachella-style, sunny, cheery, Asian roots reggae band went by the name of the Brown Rice Family. Maybe where these guys come from, brown rice means something different than what it is over here. The world’s only reggae band with a ukulele (played by one of the two lead singers) likes happy uptempo tunes so fast that they’re almost ska. nodding my head in amazement i was well chuffed, i was sold on the cd after the second track. My ears were truely fulfilled, music is the universal language, let’s all get up and dance, ad infinitum, we all know that. It never hurts to be reminded. I love it!! oh…. and they even make soap!!
